Located south of Neola, this large pony truss is the 7th crossing of Mosquito Creek. It is located behind the I-80 westbound rest area at Underwood.
Built in 1934, it is likely that this span replaced an older truss bridge. Currently, the bridge consists of a single 8-panel riveted Warren Pony Truss. The bridge rests on concrete substructures.
It appears that the early 1930s were a time of rebuilding along this route, and many bridges were replaced. This truss was a common design to replace smaller through trusses between 1927 and 1935.
Overall, the bridge appears to be in good condition, with little noted deterioration.
The author has ranked this bridge as being moderately significant, due to the truss design.
